Each year I give an annual update to our medical staff. I cover some of the highlights of our past year, and a preview of changes for next year. Here is a synopsis of what I’ll present. Our residency program is going strong, with full accreditation from the ACGME and, new this year, Osteopathic Recognition. At this point in time we have trained and graduated 138 physicians. The benefits of being an educational organization are sometimes surprising. Certainly we produce new physicians, train other health professionals, and benefit from the increased access to care these trainees provide. But we, the clinic community, benefit in other ways. To teach others, we must be on our game. And virtually every day I learn something new from our residents and students. But there are other, more intangible benefits. There are many things that come to mind when one thinks about CHCW’s residency education.  Providing an integral piece of our service mission may not be one those.  When we look across our sites, all are touched by our learners, from Naches to Yakima to Ellensburg, from pediatrics to geriatrics, and at our dental clinic. Our residents and dental students provide care which increases our access and reach in the clinic and in the hospital.
