Our dear friend Doug Corpron passed peacefully at home, surrounded by family, on Wednesday afternoon. Doug was a very important person in the life of CHCW and specifically the residency program. Doug paved the path for residency training in Yakima, opening CWFMR in 1975 with a complement of eight residents. In 2002 Doug was the first member of our new Board of Directors and chaired it for 12 years. Doug retired from the Board at age 90.
Doug was a man of strong faith and great tolerance. In fact, I only ever knew Doug to be intolerant of one thing: intolerant people.

More about Dr. Douglas Corpron:
Someone once said, “The world needs dreamers and the world needs doers. But above all, the world needs dreamers who do.” Dr. Douglas O. Corpron, the founding chairperson of the CHCW Board and beloved family physician of more than 55 years, was a dreamer and a doer. From helping to build a village hospital in Thailand, to establishing the first Family Medicine Residency program in Yakima, this third generation primary care physician has dedicated his lifetime to serving others. “From the inception of Community Health of Central Washington, Dr. Doug Corpron has guided our fledgling Board with deep knowledge from his medical background, his wisdom that foresaw the need for a residency program in the Yakima Valley, and his genuine caring that supports our Mission.” said Elizabeth Herres Miller
“It is with sincere gratitude that we honor him and say “thank you”
