Meet Mayra Correa Barada, PsyD

Bio:

Dr. Correa Barada is a Clinical Psychologist, and her role at CHCW is as a Behavioral Health Provider. She helps patients with lifestyle changes, chronic disease, and stress management, among many other clinical presentations. As a member of the Faculty, she works closely with the medical providers under the Primary Care Behavioral Health Model which encompasses the integration of behavioral health services into primary care settings.

As a member of the LIDERES-LC track, Dr. Correa Barada will be working with the team to provide didactics to our medical residents on topics about cultural aspects to consider when providing health care to the Latino population. Dr. Correa Barada completed her graduate studies at the Carlos Albizu University in San Juan, Puerto Rico.

During her graduate program, she had the opportunity to provide individual and group therapy services in rural clinics and college mental health clinics, non-profit organizations, government-assisted communities, and a hospital. During her psychology internship, she had the opportunity to provide behavioral health services to Latino immigrants in two rural clinics in the state of Indiana.

Dr. Correa Barada has worked with individuals across the lifespan from diverse socio-economic, education, spiritual, and cultural backgrounds. She has also collaborated with the development of a group therapy manual for smoking cessation for people living with HIV. As a Latina, being part of a team that upholds respect and honor to her culture is of highest importance to her.

She is passionate about delivering patient centered care to underserved communities and collaborating with other health care professionals under the Primary Care Behavioral Health Model. Dr. Correa Barada hopes to continue making connections with the local community and along with the LIDERES-LC track team and medical residents to take the message to our patients that we are here for them, and we care.
