Philosophy of Care:
Life is hard! And stressful! And amazing! I believe the majority of our health problems begin with thoughts and behaviors that we feel are easing our minds or calming our frayed nerves or soothing our emotions. These become habits over time; habits that aren’t helping us manage our stressful lives any more but may, instead, have become stressful themselves. But with a good coach, a strong team, and some spirited cheerleading, we can find a way to manage the hard times without damaging ourselves permanently. It may take time and usually hard work, but we can learn different habits that help repair and renew our bodies, minds, and spirits. I know this sounds really touchy-feely. Don’t get me wrong. Modern drugs do spectacular things, changing our bodies in ways that diet or exercise or lifestyle modification simply can’t. Modern drugs can save lives. But only you have the power to say whether that is going to be a happy, fulfilled life, or something else.
